Don't miss the twelfth annual Tour of Homes, the premier summer event in the Wenatchee Valley presented by the North Central Home Builders Association. This year, ten local builders will showcase homes representing various price ranges, floor plans and subcontractors. GVL Construction Inc., Stimac Construction, Inc., VanLith Developments, Inc. and Jessup Home Design have chosen Genext as a preferred vendor to incorporate technology into their Tour Homes. All of the contractors currently use and rely on Genext for Systems projects and have considered Genext the vendor of choice for several years.
Genext has been working on all four homes since January, putting in over 200 hours of labor to complete the technology solutions by the July 28th deadline. A majority of the work has been performed on the one of a kind, Digital Mansion by VanLith Developments. The $1.2 million dollar home is located near Eagle Rock in Crestview Estates and features an extensive range of Security and Digital Technology. It is the first home in North Central Washington to incorporate the DigiLinX Multi-Room Audio and Control System delivering unmatched sound distribution to every room. Genext is the exclusive dealer of Netsteams Entertainment in NCW, maker of the DigiLinX System.
The remaining three Genext Tour Homes are located in East Wenatchee. Vince Stimac and Stimac Construction's Tour Home is in the Fancher Heights Development and completely wired with Cat5 cabling complete with a superior A-BUS Audio System. GVL Construction built their Tour Home in the Briarwood Development with full structured wiring, an HAI Automated System, Premium Whole House Sound and two Home Theaters. Jessup Home Design selected Spring Hill Drive again this year for their Tour Home location, choosing Genext to install a Dirt Devil Central Vacuum System, the space saving and seamlessly stored cleaning device.
If you are building, remodeling or just looking for ideas come tour all ten of the homes over the three-day event, kicking off Friday, July 28th at 3:00 pm. Tickets for the Tour of Homes are $8.00 for adults and $4.00 for kids under 12 and no charge for children under the age of two. This years Tour marks Genext's fourth year participating in the highly anticipated summertime event.

KPQ "Take Two" Interview
Earlier this month the Associated Press Award winning Ken Johannessen from KPQ Radio interviewed Genext's own Scott Daniels. Ken dropped by Genext to get some answers and perspective for his "Take Two" series about the fiber network and its impact on the community. He called upon Scott because of his knowledge and extensive background with the fiber technology. Ken focused his conversation with Scott on the differences between rollout and development of the Douglas, Chelan and Grant County PUD networks.
Scott is extremely passionate about the fiber network and its impact on the community and provided great insight for Ken's story. He has been closely involved with the fiber network rollout. As well as an expert representing Genext for the last seven years serving as our liaison between the various PUD's. Scott actively secured all the contracts with the TV Networks, and is the reason for all of the great programming we have available on Genext TV.
On the series, which aired June 30th, Scott did an excellent job providing background on the fiber network and pointing out the many benefits fiber is bringing to our community. He is passionate about fiber's impact on the community and bringing state-of-the-art technology to rural areas previously without access to the latest in high-speed technology. These lasting words sum up Scott's interview perfectly, "With fiber optics the ideas and possibilities are truly endless."

It's a Heat Wave
Extreme temperatures have hit the Wenatchee Valley and it doesn't look like a cooling is expected anytime soon. Typical summer weather for NCW, but the warm temperature is a trend felt around the world. January through June was the warmest first half of any year in the continental United States since records began in 1895, U.S. government scientists have reported.
Many scientists believe humans are at least partly to blame for this warming, arguing that emissions of carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels adds to Earth's natural greenhouse effect. The high temperatures will hurt air quality and "bake" ground-level ozone emissions into smog, which can irritate lungs. You can help combat the increase in ozone emissions by minimize driving, gassing up your car in the evening when temperatures are lower, and avoiding using gas-powered gardening tools.
When the thermometer does hit the triple digits, it is also important to take care of your body. The heat hits the young and elderly the hardest and can make daily activities more difficult than normal. A few things to remember this summer: avoid going out in the heat, especially around midday. Don't leave any person or pet in a parked car, even for a few minutes. And drink at least eight glasses of water and natural juices a day.
Another warm weather hazard is fires and this year they're expected to hit the region especially hard. We had a wet winter and rainy spring, which prompted large brush growth. With the extended period of heat we are experiencing, things have dried out making the area more prone to forest fires.
A few tips for homeowners from the Red Cross: Maintain a proper "defensible space" around your home to reduce the risk of a wildfire from reaching your house, trees and brush should be kept 10 to 15 feet apart from each other and vegetation over 18 inches high should be kept 30 feet away from a home. Lawns should be kept watered and healthy. But most of all, be prepared and take responsibility ahead of time to prevent serious threats from happening at your home.
