Thank You For Your Comments
Thank you all who participated in our recent newsletter promotion and for your comments about our company. We are happy to hear about the many positive experiences our customers have had with our services, products, support and customer care. The response was overwhelming and we appreciate all of the feedback we received as it provides insight into our strengths, areas for improvement and what our customers value most in a Service Provider.

With that said, it was excruciating choosing the top three winners. We could hardly formulate our top 25, let alone the 10 we ultimately chose. That's right, we did inevitably select 10 comments in all, highlighting the various aspects of our business.

Below, please find the top 10 Genext comments (in no particular order) selected and rewarded with a $10.00 credit toward February's invoice.

Before we decided to sign up with Genext, we talked with several local and regional ISPs. We decided upon Genext because we felt that the Genext people we talked with were better informed, more technically competent, more business-like, and more thorough in answering our questions than any of the others."

During our decision-making and connection process, we talked with three different Genext people and found all of them to be courteous, knowledgeable, and helpful. The connection process was fast and efficient.

We also like the fact that we have experienced no problem whatsoever with our Internet Service since we connected. It is always there, whenever and however long we want it." - Bob E.

Wacky Weather Hits the Valley and Outages Follow
Cold weather and sporadic winds have plagued the Valley this winter. Many locals are concluding this winter the wildest in recent history. Two rather large windstorms, sub freezing temperatures and a few dumping snowfalls have made this a year to remember. The latest storm, which hit the area on Sunday, January 8th, was the worst yet. Leaving many residents without power, estimates of 18,000 homes and businesses were without electricity for days. Luckily there were no reported injuries and we hope you and your family experienced no major damage.

The storm also caused Genext to endure system wide outages as well. Fortunately, it was a mere 24 hours before all of our services were restored to customers. We want to thank you for your patience during this time as our team worked diligently to resolve the issues as quickly as possible.

As we never know when the next storm or weather extreme will strike, we have included some tips on how to keep yourself and your property safe and how to best deal with power outages, should they ever inconveniently occur again in the future.

Outages

  • Have a power-outage kit that includes flashlights and batteries, glow-in-the-dark sticks, a lantern, matches, a wind-up clock, a portable radio, a Mylar blanket and a can opener.
  • To avoid deadly carbon-monoxide poisoning, keep generators outdoors when they're running. Make sure the exhaust is not near a window or other opening to the home. Keep the exhaust and muffler away from combustible material.
  • Never burn charcoal indoors. Charcoal produces toxic fumes that can kill quickly.
  • Use hot water sparingly.
  • Turn off most electrical devices and unplug sensitive electrical equipment. Leave a light switched on, however, so you'll know when the power returns.
  • Never handle or approach a downed power line.
  • Dress in layers and cover your head. Close off unused rooms. Close drapes to prevent drafts.
  • Use only space heaters designed for the indoors. Even those need to be adequately vented to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. Keep space heaters away from curtains and clothing. Always turn off the heaters before going to bed or leaving home.
  • Get fresh air and get help right away if you feel sick or dizzy while using a generator or space heater. Fatigue, nausea and sleepiness are signs of carbon-monoxide poisoning.

Ice damage

  • To avoid frozen pipes, let water trickle overnight from indoor faucets served by exposed pipes.
  • Keep the heat on at least 55 degrees. If your water pipes are not insulated, install pipe sleeves.
  • Outdoors, disconnect garden hoses. Drain and cover faucets.

The NFL Rate Hike Debate
While we find ourselves in the midst of every football lover's favorite time of year, playoff season, a newly developing power struggle between the football fans ultimate channel is also emerging.

As we learn more about the TV industry, it has become apparent that sports programming contains the highest costs. And now, The NFL Network is seeking to make all cable companies carry the channel to all of our subscribers, whether they want the channel or not. This request is technically and, most importantly, financially challenging.

The American Cable Association, the voice of the nation's independent cable operators, has been pushing the NFL, demanding reasonable treatment for all cable systems, big and small. They launched SportsChoiceNow.org, a website providing a direct link for visitors to contact the Hill and tell their reps that they want the channel on a sports tier and that they don't want to be forced to pay for it.

The website asks you to click on a link to write Congress and demand SPORTS CHOICE NOW! It's quick and it's easy. The website does it all for you in just a couple of minutes. If you feel strongly about this issue and having a choice in what programming you want, at a reasonable price, voice your opinion and help in the fight with The NFL Network.

We appreciate your urgent help on this important matter. If you have any further questions about this issue, feel free to contact Kristin Eastman, Relations and Administrative Operations at 884.7791, ext. 308.

Enjoy watching the playoffs!

A New Billboard On Its Way?
Many of you commented on the 8' x 20' billboard stationed at Stevens and Mission Street, right before crossing the George Sellar Bridge. The billboard went up near the end of October and all of us in the office loved the sight of the Genext ad, bigger than life! Well, sadly after two months of withstanding the frigid temperatures and blustery weather, our billboard has made its departure.

We hope you enjoyed gazing at the billboard as much as we did! Many new customers noted the billboard as the reason for signing up with Genext and we appreciate this information. The success of the ad has led us to consider additional opportunities of glorifying the community with additional Genext artwork!

Be on the lookout...another Genext billboard could be coming to an intersection near you.
