Career Fair Recap

The Wenatchee Valley College was home to the fourth annual NCW Career Fair on Thursday, April 12th. This year’s venue proved to be successful for the 50 plus companies recruiting at the event. The benefit of being on the College campus was a large student turnout. The Career fair proved to be a successful event for Genext as we met a variety of people and potential candidates for the following open positions.

Home Technology Sales:
Sales Representatives are responsible for prospecting, generating and closing home technology sales. They work directly with homeowners as well as builders and developers to design and plan home technologies including: Security, Communications and Entertainment Systems and Services.

Systems Technician:
Systems Technicians are responsible for all aspects of installation, maintenance and repair of residential technologies, including installing and servicing structured cabling, sound systems, video systems, security, networks and automation controllers.

Important Message about the Chelan County Fiber Optic Network

In a few short weeks, the Chelan County PUD Commissioner's will meet and ultimately decide the fate of the Chelan County Fiber network. The potential consequences have a serious affect to you, Genext and the growth of our Valley. Please take a few minutes to read below for more information and what you can do to ensure fiber will be available to the residents of Chelan County.

The PUD's in our area offer a very unique opportunity. They are hybrids in the business world. They are both public and private entities. They are regulated on one hand, but they answer to the customers they serve. Fiber has been a major topic of discussion recently. Driven by financial uncertainties, the Chelan County PUD has continued analyzing the fiber system as part of the overall look at the District finances. The Commissioners are ready to pull the plug on what they started back in December 2002 when they authorized construction of the fiber build out to reach 55 percent of Chelan County by 2012, followed by a 2004 decision to accelerate construction to reach 95 percent of the county by 2012!

When the Chelan County PUD Commissioners meet next month, we know for certain that one of three things will happen:

  1. The fiber build out will STOP.
  2. The fiber budget will be cut in half and only 63 percent will have access to fiber by 2012.
  3. The fiber build out will continue on schedule, 90 percent of the county will have fiber by 2012.

The Commissioner's are ill equipped to make this vital decision. The Fiber Network belongs to you, the customer-owners of Chelan County. This is a pivotal session where public feedback could greatly impact PUD leadership. In this presentation, residents and business leaders have the opportunity to share their fiber stories and help define the course of the fiber network build out.

It is critical that fiber customers and supporters attend this meeting. If you are passionate about fiber and the benefits it brings the community or just want to share how much you enjoy your fiber services, they need to hear from you. Unfortunately in politics, it is often that only the negative is heard and the positive is too easily ignored.

Genext Fiber customers and supporters recognize the benefits that Fiber brings to our community. Fiber is a key driver for economic development and will ensure our growth and stability for our future generations.

Because of Fiber…

  • You are keeping Genext operational while supporting over 15 local employees.
  • You have access to the fastest information exchange systems in the Country.
  • You are provided Service in areas not served by other private systems.
  • You have access to world-class education with the ability to Tele-Educate.
  • You can communicate faster and easier with the best medical facilities in the world.
  • You are adding over $4,000 to your home's value.
  • You have the convenience of bundling your services and saving money every month.

We strongly encourage you take a minute to write your Commissioners about the fiber network. Let them know how you feel and what you want for the future of our fiber network. Their contact information can be found below.

If you have any questions or would like more information please contact Kristin Eastman at 884.7791, Extension 308.

Thank you again for your support of Genext and your community fiber network.

Exciting News for Fancher Heights and Briarwood Residents

If you live in the Fancher or Briarwood areas of Douglas County you've got reason to celebrate. Fiber will soon be available to over 1,000 residents and we have received word that it will be lit as early as next month. Installation dates will fill up quickly, call today and get started.

This is monumental for these areas, as they have not previously had access to the latest in high-speed technology. Until now, Dialup had been the only Genext Internet option available. While it is a means of connecting to the World Wide Web, it is far slower and less reliable than other broadband options available.

There are many advantages to fiber optics; it is the fastest Internet connection in the region, quicker than Dialup, DSL, Wireless or Cable. It is always on; when your computer is on, so is your Internet Access.

And in Douglas County, you can bundle your Genext Fiber Internet with Genext Voice for prices starting at just $52.49 a month. For more information about how to get connected please give us a call.

VoIP vs. Traditional Phone - What's the difference?

We receive a lot of questions about Genext Voice and how it differs from traditional phone service. So, what is the difference?

For over a hundred years we have been accustomed to using what they call in the telecom industry, POTS, Plain Old Telephone Service. While it has worked well for over a century, it is not as efficient as the new emerging technology of VoIP, Voice over Internet Protocol.

If you have a broadband Internet connection, a VoIP phone service can shave money off your monthly bill by routing calls cheaply over the Internet. You don't need to involve your computer in the process, and there are no extra numbers to dial; Internet phones work just like standard phones. Overall, the experience is similar... you dial and receive calls as usual. Genext Voice will just route them more efficiently to save you money.

As for reliability, VoIP will soon become just as reliable as regular phone service. Plus, with VoIP, you receive features such as call waiting, voicemail, caller ID and more for free. The low prices of unlimited long distance along with the rise of broadband Internet have sparked the fast adoption of VoIP. Over 11 million US households now have at least one active VoIP user, up from approximately 9 million last year.

Once a novelty service that let people make free phone calls between PCs, VoIP has come closer to the mainstream. It is no longer a question of if VoIP will surpass the traditional landline; it is merely a matter of when.

For more information about Genext Voice or VoIP technology please give us a call.
