Community Voice Update

We appreciate those of you who have taken the time to voice your support of the Chelan County Fiber Network; we sincerely thank you for your efforts.

It is critical for the Commissioners to understand the importance of staying the path. With enough support, they may choose to accelerate the build out to smaller, more remote areas where there are few options for highspeed service. These areas are desperate for a fast Internet connection and we can't allow the Chelan PUD to give up on what they started and promised to our community two years ago.

For those who have not yet voiced your support, we urge you to take a moment and visit http://www.genext.net/communityvoice and make your voice heard; the future of the Network depends on you.

In the past few weeks, we have generated a great deal of buzz regarding this issue. Your support is essential; the Commissioners need to hear from you. Do not wait any longer, please visit http://www.genext.net/communityvoice and tell your Commissioners directly.

Have you expressed your opinion but still want to do more? We have added a new feature, the ability to refer friends directly to the website or template to submit a message.

Please, make a difference today. Act now at http://www.genext.net/communityvoice.

Save a Stamp, Switch to Auto Pay

On May 14, the US Postal Service added an additional 2-cent increase to stamps, raising the total to 41 cents to send a piece of mail. The 2-cent increase has made the price of sending a letter or bill seem outrageous compared to a mere dime it cost in the early 70’s. And this is the second increase in just 16 months! The Postal Service blames this latest hike on increasing business costs such as fuel, transportation and the growing popularity of online and automatic bill paying.

In order to avoid searching around for two-cent stamps or paying the outrageous 41 cents to send in payment, make the switch to Genext auto-pay! This easy solution will not only help save you time and money, it simplifies your life. Once you sign up for automatic bill paying, your Genext bill gets paid electronically on the 5th of every month. Your payments are made quickly and conveniently, and you never have to track payment due dates, buy stamps, visit the mailbox or write checks.

Auto pay is a rapidly increasing trend, according to Forrester Research, the number of automatic bill paying users will grow by 63 percent to roughly 60 million households over the next five years. Genext has seen a steady increase among customers choosing to switch to auto pay for the convenience of automatically paying their bills. Many find it simpler than the old fashioned, more time consuming and costly method of writing a check, adding a stamp, mailing and filing a paper copy.

There is no extra charge for the auto-pay billing method. It is easy to switch, just fill out this form http://portal.genext.net/inet/contact/CCPreauthorization.pdf. Either fax it (886.5100), mail it, or drop it by the office.

Beyond cost savings and convenience; Genext auto pay also offers customers a way to be more environmentally conscious. Think of all the trees you are saving by choosing Genext auto pay!

Password Protection

Do you have trouble coming up with new passwords? It seems this is a common issue, with many people opting for passwords that are easy to remember and not necessarily unique! While it might be easiest to stick with the same typical password, you may be hurting your own security. With many of us choosing the same typical password it has lead to a plethora of common and unprotected passwords.

PC Magazine has a list of the most commonly used passwords, so if yours is on the list, we recommend that you consider changing it.

  1. password
  2. 123456
  3. qwerty
  4. abc123
  5. letmein
  6. monkey
  7. myspace 1
  8. password 1
  9. blink182
  10. (your first name)

Did you find one of your passwords on the list above; I’ll admit I did. Now I’d like to offer some advice on how to create a newly protected password.

The trick is to use a "root" (either a common name or word) that is not in one of the top 10.

And then place an "appendage" (symbol or number), I would suggest using two of them, in an unusual place: Either in the middle of the root or at both the beginning and the end. Also, you should mix upper and lowercase letters in the middle of your root.

Your passwords should be at least 8 or more characters in length.

If you want to get really tricky, choose a root word that you can pronounce but which is spelled "wrong": armwar or pitchsure or baysball are all examples. Then attach your appendage(s): arm9!9war or 1066pitchsure6601 or bay1776sball.

While you don’t need to make every password complicated, it is wise for your highly sensitive information such as financial, banking or anywhere you use online transactions.
